Cartographic Traces
November 8–30, 2025
Sol del Río, Guatemala City
Curated by José Manuel Mayorga
Sol del Río presents Trazos Cartográficos (Cartographic Traces), a collective exhibition that explores how maps — once used for power, control, and surveillance during Guatemala’s Cold War — also became tools of memory, resistance, and healing. This exhibition is presented as a collateral event within the framework of the 24th Paiz Art Biennial.
Featuring works by Daniel Chauche, Sylvia Tenenbaum, Jenniffer Paiz, Alfredo Ceibal, Andrea Monroy Palacios, and Khiv Koot Ceto Brito & Catarina Raymundo (Universidad Ixil), the show reinterprets Guatemala’s geography through photography, textiles, and mixed media.
Curated by José Manuel Mayorga, the exhibition reveals how artistic practice transforms cartography into testimony — tracing not only territories but the human stories and silenced memories they contain.
Trazos Cartográficos forms part of the research project Komon Sajb’ichil: Ixil Cartographies during the Cold War — Knowledge Exchange for Intergenerational Justice, supported by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
